IP address is short for Internet Protocol (IP) address.
An IP address is an identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network. Networks using the TCP/IP protocol route messages based on the IP address of the destination.
There are two types of IP address
(for IPv4) 172.16.254.1
(for IPv6) 2001:db8:0:1234:0:567:8:1
Reasons for hiding IP address:
There are different reasons for hiding the IP address.Suppose you are hacking into web server with the actual IP address assigned to you by the ISP(Internet Service Provider),then there is a lot of chance you can be caught as your IP address can be stored in the database of that server.So,inorder to stay protected you must hide your IP address.
Different Methods to hide IP address:
one of the most used method is to use proxy servers.In computer networks, a proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource available from a different server. The proxy server evaluates the request as a way to simplify and control their complexity.In this way the identity of the client remain hidden

some may use one proxy under another proxy this is called bouncing.Suppose you first open hidemyass.com and after that you open anonymizer.ru in hidemyass,then it is called proxy bouncing.It will help to decrese your chances of getting caught.

The format of an IP address is a 32-bit numeric address written as four numbers separated by periods. Each number can be zero to 255. For example, 1.160.10.240 could be an IP address.There are two types of IP address

you can use these kind of softwares to fake your IP but it is not that much secure. rather you can use different working proxy in firefox by setting it in the option of firefox.I m going to give a tutorial on this. If you really want to be annonymous while surfing internet,you can use combination of VPN(Virtual Private Network) and 'tor' browser.VPN will encrypt your data and tor browser will send your data throufh different path.Then it will be real hard to trace you
